ACTING AND DIRECTING- GREG LESAR
PLAY ASSIGNMENT 10%
The purpose of this assignment is for you to go into the
world and view a professional play.
Theater holds the roots of all forms of performance from Greece to
Shakespeare and beyond. All actors come
from the theater, this is where you find and connect with the emotional context
and roots of an actor’s performance.
Do This: Do your research and find a play to attend. Most plays today cost the same as a movie
ticket. Search the Arts and
Entertainment sections of *TBT or Creative Loafing (local magazines). Do your research- try supporting the people
on The Tampa Bay Actor’s directory by going to a play that they perform in.
Get there early, get a program. Get a feel for the environment, get there early to get a good
seat. Observe your surroundings, you are
going as a director, a field researcher, and an observant audience member. Observe the play from a technicians POV, watch
how the actors block themselves on the stage, notice emotional cues, lighting
cues, scene cues and the director’s perspective.
Write it up. Make a
3-5 page document detailing your experiences, your reflections, and your
deepening understanding of the actor’s process on stage. Use what you have learned a gaining deeper
insight upon your quest as a filmmaker and as a director. Let this help you as a director and as a
filmmaker.
Who knows- you might meet actors there that you will work
with later.
THIS IS DUE WEEK 11- DO NOT DO THIS AND YOU WILL SUFFER
INTELLECTUALLY. MUST BE PRINTED OUT AND MUST BE SUBMITTED TO THE BLOG. MUST HAVE COHERENCE, PERFECT SPELLING AND
GRAMMAR.
