Samantha Play Paper

Samantha Garay

A Few weeks ago, Me, Bryan and Sage went to go see this play called Biloxi Blues. It was my first time ever seeing a play. I’m more of a musical, opera person, plays have never gotten my interest, but  that’s besides the point.  But when I walked in, and saw all the people waiting line and I started to change my mine about the play I was about to watch. The doors open at 8pm all the guest walked in ,and  sat at there seats. I remember the seats; they were purple my favorite color. The first thing I notices when I walked in was the stage. I was shocked the theater was so small. I began to wonder how the actors were going to perform with such a confined space. This theater was different then most theater, because the way it was arrange made me, and the audience feel like we were apart the of sense. I will have to say that seeing this play was very refreshing for me. I was quit impress with the acting and the actor. When the play started I really like the way how the music that they were playing was helping our mines get into a mood for  us to understand the story a little  better. Biloxi Blues is a story about a group of young  men going to boot camp to train for world war II. These guys are introduce by a very excited young guy by name of Eugene morris Jerome. He keep’s a diary with him the whole time writing down his thoughts and his view and each guy meets on his trip to boot camp. In this story we follow this guy through tough to time’s . Each solder has a different story and where they came form, beside the point joining the army. You have this one guy that Is a self center jackass that want  to be the boss of every, you have another that is not the brightness in group and his sort of a kiss ass and a push over, but seems to be like by the other in the group. Now this charter about tell u about should not even be in the army at all. This guy was 6”3 and was skinny at pole, he had big ear’s and he wore the big nerd class, and on top of that he was a Jew! There was a guy that crazy and had some dark things about him that one really could see at the moment. And last you had Eugene, a guy who was kind of Holden by his insert curies but was very smart and overall nice guy, kind of too nice. I can say that this story was very relatable to, because as me growing up to become man also dealt with some of these problems. Like the Jew, and Eugene I also had to battle my insert curies. The morel of this is to find who you in life and be comfortable  with it. We all have problems, but he’s all have you handle the your problems in. you see at the end the each solder had change for the first time we see them in the story. Life some time we need a a moment or a mine war to make us lessen the things that hold us back in life.

Sage's Play Paper

I went to the play for this class assignment and it was really good to see a theater play than
movies I see all the time. They are two different things all together and that’s what makes the
experience so god in its own unique way. I prepared myself by eating and going to the rest
room before hand since this is a live performance I can’t just simply pause the show as if I were
watching this on television and even at a movie theater I never get distracted and go to the
restroom and ruin what I paid to see.

The theater was within a apartment complex with many resident who not only had dogs every where but loved to just hang out and relax. It was a very nice place to live. As I entered the theater the
curtains where up and shoed the stage and its props set up for the performance and that I never see for
the plays I went to in the past. A projector was up playing old World War II looney toons cartoons to be
with the theme of the play and I didn’t mine that so it can kill time and make the show start sooner than
you think.
The actors in the play where very good at staying in character and making them
believable. The main actor did a great job for his role and kept the crowd constantly laughing at
his sarcasm and nervous behavior. Which the scenes where he steps of stage to talk to the
audience what he thinks of the situation is in where really well done. A spot light beamed down
on him while every other light was turned off. This gave it a look to show that we are not
watching him but watching him be his mind to talk to us. It was as if this was a whole new
stage.

Besides everything being professionally being a well done play I want to go to more and
watch different themes and see how they gets their moods across with lighting, staging and
acting.

ONE NIGHT AT A PLAY

By

:Bryan Williams

On my 18th  I arrived at the theater wondering was Biloxi Blues was to be going to be a good play or not. But when I walked in, and saw all the people waiting line and I started to change my mine about the play I was about to watch. The doors open at 8pm all the guest walked in ,and  sat at there seats. I will have to say that seeing this play was very refreshing for me. I was quit impress with the acting and the actor. As a kid I was always involved in theater,  I also took acting in high school. So to seeing this  play brought back a lot of members for me. When the play started I really like the way how the music that they were playing was helping our mines get into a mood for  us to understand the story a little  better. Play Write-up
I am writing my show write up on this ice show I saw at Busch Gardens called Iceploration.  It was basicly about this young boy named Austin and his Grandfather,  who decides to go out and explore the world.  It was a very interesting show.  It was filled with wonderful music, dancing, acrobatics, and skating.  I have never seen anything like it, I think it was a one of a kind show.
When my girlfriend and arrived at the theater and seated, we were pleased to see that the people who were selling food were already making their rounds, we were extremely hungry.  Another thing that I notice was that it was very cold!  I mean we had just went on a water ride and we come in here and freeze our butt off, but it was my fault.  Anyways,  The show was on of the greatest spectacles I’ve ever seen.  Like I’ve never seen human beings move so gracefully, set designed so beautifully, or music that sounded so heavenly.  It wa like I was transported to an entirely new world.
The though the blocking for the show was amazing.  Like I don’t understand how you block something with so much movement.  There would be as many as nine skaters on the stage at once and yet their movements were still so seamless.  I noticed they used similar blocking set ups that we learned in class.  They used A, L, and I formations while in movement, making sure that we always had a clear view of the graceful skates.
I was very impressed by the scenery.  We were amazed to see the breathtaking sets.  The play took us through many locations like the African Serengeti, Great Barrier Riff and the Amazon rainforest; all were beautifully designed.  They used screens to give the look of an underwater scene, that was my favorite show of scenery.  The costumes were also amazing; they quickly changed between costumes many times and very often.  It was just an amazing show.  I also enjoyed the many set pieces like the huge fish puppet that they made swim around using a few skaters.  It was a sight to see.  Also I love when they went to the Amazon Rainforest.  They had these three acrobats dressed as animals and they were just in the background doing backflips and many other acrobatic maneuvers, while never touching.  While they were doing that they had people in front of them skating.  Their costumes were just dazzling.  All of the colorful backgrounds worked well with the backgrounds.
A great touch to the show was when they began to drop ice on the audience.  I would have to admit, It made things a lot colder.  The little things they did like that just made the experience more magical.  Another thing they did was add actual animals to the show.  They had birds flying around the roof, they had a strange animal walk across the front of the audience.  It was just a great spectacle to see.  They had dogs bring in the two main actors into the Arctic.  Like I would have loved to see a cheetah or a lion on stage, just to try to touch them, but they made it clear not to touch the animal performers.
I was very happy with my live performance.  I got to experience a great show.  It was just amazing watching the story unfold and watching the sets change so quickly and often as they did.  The dancing was amazing, the music was amazing.  The best scene for the show was when they hand a cheetah chasing after a pack of defenseless animals.  The blocking of this scene was amazing.  The skaters were moving at very fast speeds, and it made it look like the cheetah was really attacking.  I love when all but one of the animals left the stage and it hand to face the cheetah, it dance was amazing and was cool how they were dancing and showing that they were fight against each other.    This was probably one of the best shows I’ve seen this year.  I would love to go see it again.  I recommended this show to everyone.  Go enjoy it.

Anthony Agnelli's Play write

My best friend, Bobby Burns, invited me to go back to my old high school to see a play. I was very excited yet nervous at the same time; I didn’t know what to expect except for people who I’ve been friends with or people who thought I was awkward, but it didn’t matter to me, I was ready to see my high school again. When I was driving, everything looked familiar and I was brought back to the good times and the bad times.

When I drove in the front of my school, I had a feeling that people, who knew me, would be surprised of my return, but it turned out that only a few people were very excited to see me again. When Bobby arrived at the theater, we walked inside and found ourselves empty seats almost before everybody else arrived. There was a big set with some wooden boxes on top of each other for the actors to stand up on. As soon as everyone else came in, the play was ready to start.

Everything was dark at first but then music started to play the yellow and green lights started to turn on. Music began to play and we saw one actor, he was standing in the middle and very top of the wooden setting. He was wearing a green cap, and a green shirt with white spots, he started singing and moving all around the set and then we spotted an actress. I realized that the actress plays a mother goose and the actor plays the husband.

We then see some eggs that start to hatch and then little yellow ducklings come out and they are all played by kid actors wearing yellow shirts and they were moving and running around each other.  All the actors started to move around the set, smiling and singing. They pretended they were swimming by putting their arms on the sides of their bodies and walking in tip-toes. Then all of a sudden, the last egg hatched, all the actors gathered around the egg, two spotlights surrounded the egg. And one actor popped out and surprised us by yelling, “HOOOONK!!” He was wearing a brown suit with a brown hat. The actor was the Ugly Duckling.

So then we had some comedy, his dad, tries to teach the duckling how to quack, but the ugly duckling couldn’t help saying, “HOOOONK!!” The dad gets startled and we start laughing as he moves his arms fast from being startled. Then we have another song playing called “Look at him.” The characters begin to tease the poor duckling except his mother. They begin to judge him by the way he looks and they think that he should have to look alike. They start moving back and forth left and right to be visible for the whole audience. Then we have the first appearance of the Black Cat who wants to eat the Ugly Duckling. She is dressed in a black suit and her hair is bundled up to look like cat ears. She is probably one of the best parts of the play, mainly because she is an amazing dancer. She dances almost all the time. The way she performs her dance moves is to show the audience that she is an antagonist.

The next scene is with the Ugly Duckling and the Cat. The duck is just sitting down while the cat dances around with her ingredients as she is about to cook him, she dances around him in circle almost the whole time. Then we have another scene with The Duck and several new actors pop out dressed like frogs. The lighting was all green and blue to show us there was a pond. The actors were moving up and down on their hands and feet except for one actor who plays the dad. He was also hold a black cane. His voice began to make us laugh, he was moving around goofy and silly. The Duck and the Frog began to rotate each side of the stage. In the end, the Frog tapped the ducks shoulder with his cane and all the frogs hopped away. The purpose of that scene was to talk about why feeling different didn’t matter. Then we have a scene between the Duck and his love interest, the Female Swan as the lights began to change into white. They were both standing and singing together and the lyrics were very heart warming and after the whole song, we believed they were in love. The Swan was ready to leave and the duck asked if he would ever see her again and that is where we were invested in the love story.

Then there was a winter scene, where the duck gets covered with snow, the actor only uses a white blanket right before the mother arrives and she starts to cry. Another song plays about how much she misses her son. We start to feel the sympathy for her and most of the audience almost cried as the lighting is all blue and surrounding the actress as she is moving very closely to the blanket. But then, as the mother goose, moves the white blanket, the duck appears as a swan and says, “HOOOOONK!!!” We were very surprised when the Ugly Duckling was back. This time, he was wearing a white suit. The Black Cat returned to find the Ugly Duckling and as soon as she finds out that he is a swan, she begins to gasp and starts running away with her feet moving all around.

It was a great experience to see actors in a play to influence me as director in the future. There will have to be facial expressions, the way they speak, etc. I was really entertained by their performances and I even felt sympathy for the one character. It was also very nice to learn about the lighting technicians and how the story would surprise us. I learned so much at that play and I hope to instruct my actors very well as a direct of the future.
